Actually that's incorrect, Patrick. Only the low-line regular LTD's came with the single lights. All the higher-end models labeled 'LTD Landau' and 'Country Squire' had the quad lights. You won't find a CS with those single lights.

I knew that. processed many over the years and I feel the single headlight header panel is WAY better looking (sportier)

Some time ago, I read a letter or article from someone who owned a '79 CS 351 and claimed it had better acceleration than the previous gen with a 460 (he'd owned one of these, too).

If this were closer to me, I'd be very tempted. Even with the problems the price is right. And for only $1700, I could live with faded paint.

By the way, I think jwdtenn misread the ad. It's a 351W with a C4 trans.

Yes, dual headlights for the base LTD was 1979 only. By 1980, quad headlights were standard for LTD as well as LTD Landau and Country Squire. As the factory brochure said, LTD had a new look upfront for 1980.

I saw one of these YEARS ago (altho I believe it was a mercury) with the 351/400 in it and I think it had the C4<not positive on the trans been a long time. BUT it was the only one I ever saw with a ford 9"

If I'm not mistaken, the base LTD in '79 was referrred to as the LTD S. I think they borrowed that nomenclature from the LTD II (that's the '77 - '79 restyled Torino/Gran Torino, not to be confused with the Fox body car which Ford just called LTD), which also had a base model designated "S".

I don't believe I ever saw too many of the LTD S models back in the day. Of course, I can't remember the last time I saw any '79 - '81 LTD -- wagon, sedan, or otherwise.

I have a 79 and it has an LTD hood emblem that's IT! there is no other designation of a model name or # or letter.

My bad. Double checking the '79 brochure, I find no mention of the S sub-model. In my very imperfect memory, I mixed the LTD up with the LTD II.

In '79 there were only two sub-series of the full-sized Ford, LTD and LTD Landau (the latter including the Country Squire). If you don't have the brochure, check it out at www.oldcarbrochures.com.
