This is evident in the Kensal Rise kitchen, where Sophie Pringle, founder of Pringle & Pringle, combines modern and traditional elements with a vibrant blue hue. The design aims to create a warm and expressive space, serving as the heart of the home for the entire family.
The inspiration for this kitchen comes from a mix of American and British influences. Sophie looked to American-style kitchens with generous proportions and built-in features, while also incorporating British elements like the kitchen brand deVOL and designer Rose Uniacke. The goal was to create a functional space that felt like the central hub of the family's daily life, accommodating both informal evening suppers and lively playdates.
The design process began with a clear outline of colors and materials, including a natural palette of wood, ebonized finishes, brass, bronze, and quartzite. This foundation allowed Sophie to introduce bold and playful elements, such as the kitchen blinds that inspired a 'Greek' blue color scheme. The kitchen island, with its blue-and-white checked tiles, adds a playful note while maintaining a transatlantic design aesthetic.
Functionality was a key consideration, with the kitchen featuring hidden storage solutions. The tall units conceal a full-height pantry, and a built-in sliding kitchen ladder provides accessible storage. The design balances modernity and tradition, functionality and aesthetics, creating a sophisticated and childlike joy in the space.
To achieve the desired look, consider incorporating brass pot hooks, Farrow & Ball's Pea Flower Tea paint, tapered glass pendants, and blue zellige tiles. These elements, combined with a classic black Lacanche range cooker, will bring a touch of luxury and energy to your own blue kitchen.
