Malta's Shocking Move: Tax Cuts for Parents to Boost Birth Rate!

On October 27, 2025, Finance Minister Clyde Caruana presented the 2026 budget speech, emphasizing the need to encourage larger families. He stated, "We must inspire families to have at least two children." This comes after a stark warning from Maltese Catholic Archbishop Charles Scicluna, who claimed the country was facing "ethnic extinction."
And this is where it gets interesting: the tax cuts are substantial. Parents with two or more children will be exempt from income tax on a significant portion of their earnings, starting at €18,500 ($21,575) in 2026 and rising to €30,000 by 2028. This relief will continue until the children turn 23.
